Remembered to take some readings while in the shop earlier, Stock pipe OD is 43 mm or about 1.68", bushing (packing) takes it out to 1.90" new. HD muffler inlet is 1-3/4" ID. When I used a HD muffler on the stock pipe, I cut a piece of 1-3/4" OD exhaust pipe and made bushing that is about 1.53 ID, then heated it (the muffler) up hot and using a computhane hammer massaged it onto the unbushed (no packing ring) Savage pipe off the bike. No clamp needed, as when the temperature matches it is tight hot or cold. I tried with the baffle intact and then punched a 1/2" hole in it as it is still an 80 DB muffler stock. Still didn't like it and bought a SuperTrapp. Ran it 6 months and then started experimenting again. Ran a Highway Hawk drag pipe for a week and then added the HD/CE muffler, still not what I was looking for as the pipe is single wall and noisy from the engine back. Got a used Raask (mfg in Europe) drag pipe double wall and used it for a headpipe and added the HD/SE muffler. I'm now running a HD branded but sold as Screamin' Eagle accessory glasspack with good sized holes going into the glass. Still 80 db rated. No need to remove or modify the baffle as it flows easily and has a great sound. No one complains about the level of sound and it looks great. Happy experimenting. Max
